And the winner is ...
Meet the latest model set to captivate the catwalk crowds across the country. She's sweet 16 and as of Saturday, $8000 richer. Fashion Editor Rachel Syers reports
Gold Coast teenager Kristy Mansfield had already prepared herself to take defeat graciously.
As she and another 19 finalists struck a nervous pose on stage waiting to hear the winner's name announced for this year's Ultimate Look of the Year model quest, run by Katz Management, Kristy kept telling herself, 'just be happy for the girl whose name they call'.
As it turns out, that task was a breeze - the name she heard was her own.
And did the crowd roar.
"I had 13 members of my family who came to see me," laughs Kristy, a Year 11 student at Marymount College with career aspirations banking on fashion journalism.
The audience watching the choreographed final parade at The Oasis in Broadbeach contained Kristy's twin brother Zac, mother Lisa, father Richard, and grandmother, aunties, cousins, school friends and even her teacher.
Suffice to say, this 180cm blonde from Clagiraba, with stand-out-features, is well liked for her freshly honest and grounded demeanour - character traits not wasted on Katz managing director and Ultimate Look founder Kathy Tabet-Castens. Kristy's personality and attitude played a part in scoring for her highest points on the day, leading to a take-home prize package worth $8000.
Kristy take-home prize package includes...
- $3000 spending money at boutiques located in the Oasis shopping centre, Broadbeach.
- $2000 cash.
- A-two-year modelling contract with Katz Management at Southport, including representation for major modelling and fashion events around Australia.
- $1100 Equip Yourself course with Buckingham Academy.
- Photographic portfolio from MC Photography.
- Covergirl photograph and article in Tuesday magazine, within The Gold Coast Bulletin.
- A variety of hair and make-up products.
